Boringdon Golf Club teaches us what Golf Club Weddings get right.

Plymouth is one of the most highly populated places in Devon, and a vast amount of people don’t get married further than 50 miles away from home.

That means there are probably a tonne of couples looking for a wedding venue in Plymouth, and with Boringdon Golf Club, you can have one with panoramic views across the Plymouth Sound & Dartmoor.

Dael & Emma agreed, and therefore Boringdon became their Plymouth wedding venue of choice. Fortunately they had Maven Visuals Wedding Films along to document it all in a wedding film, so we could share the best wedding moments with you.

Here are our 5 favourite moments from their wedding film.

Moment 1/5: When they chose 16th Century wedding vows

As a wedding videographer, I’ve heard the wedding ceremony literally hundreds of times. The only difference between a civil wedding and a church wedding is that a civil wedding takes about 20 minutes, and a church wedding takes about an hour.

So at this Plymouth wedding, when I started hearing things like “I will feed from your trough” and stuff I was undoubtedly confused as to what on earth was actually going on.

Turns out, they had decided to choose the 16th Century version of the marriage ceremony, because they heard it was an option and ‘wanted to see what would happen’. - my kind of people.

Moment 2/5: When the Groom surprised everyone with his speech

The groom kept this quiet, but it turns out he’s a literary genius.

Laidback & jovial in nature, you got the impression he opted not to take life too seriously, and to always keep things light.

It turns out though, that he was deadly serious about his love for his new wife - which he expressed in one of the most powerful speeches I’ve heard at a wedding.

Having told his closest friends, family & groomsmen that he had “knocked up” the speech the night before - everyone had gone in with limited expectations. Everyone in the wedding party was pleasantly surprised as a result.

“Before I met you, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to go in life, but now I know. I want to be wherever you are, always.”

Moment 3/5: When we off-road raced Golf Buggies

Boringdon Golf Club owns 200 acres of beautiful land. And whilst you can go from having stunning ocean views, to a picturesque backdrop of Dartmoor by doing nothing more than turning around, driving a golf buggy around to get some photos with the wedding photographer & wedding videographer sounded like more fun.

On this occasion, there was just one golf buggy, so I once again found myself relegated to hanging on with one hand to the exterior of this battery-powered devil truck… but we had a phenomenal time nonetheless.

As for the offroad part… we may or may not have thought there was a shortcut back to the wedding venue and been proved wrong.

Apologies to Boringdon Golf Club for not following instructions… but neither the land, buggy nor bride & groom were broken in the process, so I consider it a good day.

Moment 4/5: When the Groom nearly got dropped on his face

For a lot of couples (as well as wedding videographers, wedding photographers and wedding guests etc.) staged group shots are the worst part of the day.

If you’ve been pressured into having a massive list of group photos and/or your wedding photographer isn’t very confident at directing large masses of slowly intoxicating & excited human beings - you’re in for a rough time.

It’s never really my place to say as a wedding videographer - your wedding photographer is in charge of the group photographs after all.

But any wedding photographer I’ve worked with worth their salt is going to advise somewhere between 10-15 groups max. I can’t tell you how strongly I recommend following their advice.

Thankfully Dael & Emma had followed this advice, and their wedding photographer Codie was a real pro. So we could get back to the fun stuff in no time.

However, in usual Dael & Emma fashion, they had decided they were going to bring the party to the group shots.

Fair play to them, they got the proper wedding photographs that your grandma or aunt wants to get printed… but from there it devolved into chaos, with all sorts of shapes being cast down the lens.

Oh, and when the bridal party decided they wanted a photo of the bridesmaids picking up the groom… they very nearly failed in the worst possible way. Thankful the best man managed to get in position to catch him just in time, or it could’ve been a disaster.

Moment 5/5: When the wedding dancing got WILD

Boringdon Golf Club really showed its value as a pretty & practical wedding venue with the first dance. The hall was nice & big and left plenty of space, but not so much space that it felt empty with a small number of guests.

Dael & Emma nailed their first wedding dance, and after the song had finished the main story of their day - invited the guests to join them as usual.

This is where, for most of the guests, things started getting proper blurry. With Dael being ex-military, there was a lot of what I now know is called ‘squad-y dancing’.

People were getting absolutely wild, and it was really the best case scenario for their wedding film. They ended the day with a hell of a bang.

So, feel free to jump in the conversation!
