A closer look at what made this Salcombe Wedding at Cliff House so special.

Amy & Stephen got married at Cliff House, Salcombe, Devon.

Devon residents like me often forget that the South West has some of the best wedding locations in the world, and Cliff House proves it.

Fortunately they had Maven Visuals Wedding Films along to document it all in a wedding film, so we could share the best wedding moments with you.

Here are our 5 favourite moments from their wedding film.

Moment 1/5: When we saw Salcombe for the first time

The stunning Salcombe Estuary & glowing beaches of Portlemouth made the entire town feel like a destination wedding right from the start.

Just driving into Salcombe felt like Devon had become Monico or the Caribbean.

Cliff House, as suggested by the name, sat right on the edge of this beautiful landscape and was perfectly situated to capture the full beauty that Salcombe had to offer.

We, of course, politely gave in to our impulses to fly the drone immediately around the Devonshire estuary.

Moment 2/5: When we caught these candid shots!

Ok… so it might seem like cheating, but Amy & Stephens Salcombe wedding had possibly the most perfect candid shots of any of our 2022 weddings. Absolutely nothing was staged, no laughs practised, no moments scripted.

Both I (the wedding videographer) and Lauren (the wedding photographer) were able to completely disappear into the crowds and catch tonnes of joy with absolute ease.

It felt like wherever we pointed our cameras there was something memorable happening… Perhaps it was the Salcombe Seaside air sending everyone jovial - but I loved it.

Moment 3/5: When the Best Man Nailed His Speech

Stephen’s brother answered the age-old question of “How to write a great best man speech” in the simplest way imaginable - simply tell the truth.

The speech was heartfelt, and covered how much Stephen meant to him, and how confident he was that they would always be there for each other.

It was a proud, non-cliché best man speech that showcased how great a character the groom was - who to this day remains one of the most welcoming and honourable grooms I’ve ever met.

Moment 4/5: When we all went for a walk

As a wedding videographer, I never stage stuff or script stuff. There’s no micromanaging of your day, it’s cringe and I don’t like it.

What I do love is when you, me & the wedding photographer can go for a walk.

Not only does it allow you two to get away from your adoring public, but it also allows us to have some laid-back fun and capture beautiful candid wedding shots like these.

Afterwards, we often leave the couples behind so they can properly soak in everything that’s happened so far. It’s always a welcome part of their day… and the wedding photos & wedding videos are always worth it.

Moment 5/5: When we lit sparklers at the perfect time.

A few years ago, I was at a wedding with a world-class destination photographer Courtney Marie Photography who taught me many things in the few hours we worked together. One of those things was how to get the perfect sparkler shots at your wedding.

We all think sparklers are for night time, and that they look the best in the pitch dark.

The problem is, if it’s beautiful wedding photos you’re after, this is almost never the case.

The trick, it turns out, is to wait until just before the sun has fully set, where you can still see without artificial light. Below are some still frames I took from Amy & Stephens Salcombe Wedding Video - and you can see in photo 2 the type of light I mean.

You can be the final judge, but I think these look way better than extreme dark with a little bit of spark.

This way, the sparklers still light up the night sky whilst the wedding photographer & wedding videographer can still capture the entire atmosphere.

So, feel free to jump in the conversation!

Which one of these moments were your favourite? Have any made you want to plan your wedding differently?
