5 Moments That Prove Country House Hotel Weddings are the Best

- Real Weddings -

Watch: Zayna & Alex | A Maven Visuals Wedding Film

Whether it’s a country house hotel, a luxury getaway, or both, these moments prove your wedding will be perfect.

The best way to guarantee a beautiful wedding film is to have a beautiful venue, and then have beautiful moments that we can capture.

For Zayna & Alex, their decision to book the Horn of Plenty as their wedding venue meant they were already half way there. The Horn of Plenty is a luxury manor house hotel right on the border of Devon & Cornwall. It’s also personally a 5 minute drive away from my house in Tavistock.

Zayna & Alex had a beautiful day, and thankfully for us, they also hired Maven Visuals Wedding Films so we could share the 5 moments you can steal to inspire your own wedding.

Moment 1/5: The bride & groom literally lost the rings

One of the most memorable moments of my whole wedding videography career was when the ring was dropped during bridal prep… and rolled right in between the 150 year old floorboards of the main house… gone forever.

Thankfully, the heroic Horn of Plenty staff went to work on surgically removing the beautiful country house floor until they had recovered the ring.

The best part was that the bride never found out the ring was lost until way after, even though it happened right outside her bridal suite.

It just goes to show - if you’ve chosen great vendors & a great wedding venue, there’s very little that can go wrong.

Moment 2/5: Seeing the Views from the Sky for the First Time

Horn of Plenty, Tavistock, is a 4 star luxury house hotel that used to be a private home back in the 1800’s, and it’s situated on the cusp of the border of Devon & Cornwall in the Tamar Valley.

The Tamar Valley, as it turns out, looks absolutely magical from the sky, and the April Sunlight did wonders.

So, given that we include drone footage with every wedding film for free, Naturally I got the drone up to have a look. The resulting shots are still some of my most favourite images and commonly used across my wedding videography website.

Moment 3/5: The Unique Twist on Confetti

Zayna & Alex had a wedding theme. That theme was Cadburys. So there was lots of white & purple throughout the day even down to the confetti petals.

As a wedding videographer, a dark purple on confetti might have worried me (make one small mistake with the shade of purple… and you just wouldn’t be able to see it).

But, clearly this was something they had thought out well, because there was plenty of white & purple beauty on their final shots.

The main trick with confetti is to always get the largest petal you can. No dust!

Moment 4/5: Fun with the Evening Shots

I describe my wedding videography as a “Cinematic Documentary” style.

In other words, I’m not going to be forcing couples to do loads of staged stuff all day.

That said, when the wedding party told me they wanted to head down to the garden and “mess around” for the cameras during sunset, I was fully onboard.

To be fair though, even this stuff wasn’t staged - we just gave them a scenario or task to complete like… “Race from here to here” or “Throw the groom into the moon” and everyone just had a massive laugh. Plus it was great to have in the final wedding film.

Moment 5/5: The Father Daughter Dance

If you’re planning a wedding, you’ve probably heard about the Father/Daughter Dance.

If you haven’t, that’s because it’s one of those American traditions that us UK weddings have decided to steal.

I’ve seen a few now, and the Father/Daughter Dance is becoming a welcome addition, and one that I think will continue to be a big wedding trend in 2023.

But this one was especially special because it was clear that Zayna & her father were extremely close.

The Horn of Plenty also had a really nice room for this, which gave us wedding photographers & wedding videographers a nice well-lit view of the crowd reactions.

There was definitely a solid amount of tears watching a proud father dance with his daughter.

So, feel free to jump in the conversation!

Which one of these moments were your favourite? Have any made you want to plan your wedding differently?
