Torquay might just be the best kept secret in unique & quirky Devonshire weddings

Candice & Colin wanted a wedding unlike the others, and they did a great job. From the Torquay Land Train, to a free air show from the British Red Arrows - they had a wedding unlike any other I’ve been the wedding videographer for.

Fortunately they had Maven Visuals Wedding Films along to document it all in a wedding film, so I can share the best wedding moments with you.

Here are our 5 favourite moments from their wedding film that give Torquay it’s reputation for phenomenal weddings in Devon

Moment 1/5: When the Groom came with Del-Boy from Only Fools & Horses

First step in a unique wedding, arrive in Torquay in the classic del-boy 3 wheeler with the only fools & horses theme song blasting out the motor.

With Torre Abbey being a beautiful historical museum, the fact that Del showed up to drop off the groom seemed like something that would’ve been a great real episode.

Moment 2/5: When we took Torquay’s Famous Land Train

The Land Train is a famous Torquay legend that I was unaware of. Even though I’m based in Devon… I live near Plymouth - which apparently is far enough removed from the local Torquay culture to be unaware of this elite mode of transport.

The train usually passes through Torquay’s Strand, The Grand Hotel, Torre Abbey, Torre Abbey Gardens, Belgrave Road, Derwent Hotel, Belgrave Road, Lucius Street and Fleet Street on a 40 minute circuit.

As luck would have it, we were at Torre Abbey, and so the train took the entire wedding party across the busy streets of Torquay with spectators spotting the bride and cheering and whooping the whole way. It was a legendary wedding moment.

Moment 3/5: When Torre Abbey made the perfect wedding confetti walk.

Torre Abbey is a beautiful large historical building filled with tons of amazing secrets and facts about our history. It also has a really nice garden, which is all my primitive wedding videographer brain needed to know to fall in love with the place.

But by far my favourite shots we got at Torre Abbey was the wedding confetti. Blog readers know I love a good large Petal, and these were not only massive but a beautiful mix of colours that looked great on camera.

Besides that, it’s not often you can get a wedding video clip containing a large group of people where every single person looks happy… but we did here as you can see - which is a testament to Candice & Collins ability to bring joy into people's lives.

Moment 4/5: When we basically teleported into the Jungle (from Torquay)

I mentioned that Torre Abbey had beautiful gardens, and it turns out they also have large house-sized greenhouses you can walk around in and explore as well.

Walking between the arches of towering plants and being hit with the instantaneous humidity immediately brought me back to my Bali backpacking days.

If you’re looking for an exotic wedding, but love Torquay - you can absolutely have your wedding cake and eat it too at Torre Abbey.

Moment 5/5: When the Red Arrows performed for us

I’d love to say I personally paid a guy, who knows a guy, to make this happen for Candice & Colin… but it’s not the case.

Actually it was just that Candice & Colin’s wedding was the same day as the air show celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee so all of us got prize seats to watch it at the Livermead House Hotel (who took care of all of the evening celebrations).

It was also pretty fortunate that we had an ex-military Red Arrows expert amongst the wedding guests, who was literally telling me what pattern they would fly in next so I could nail the wedding videography without any guess work. It was magic!

So, feel free to jump in the conversation!

Which one of these moments were your favourite? Have any made you want to plan your wedding differently?
