Nestled in amongst some of the most beautiful areas of Dartmoor, Moorland Hotel Haytor is a stunning little bastion of civilisation amongst the wildest parts of Dartmoor National Park.

Moment 1/5: When we saw the Views from the Sky
Moorland Hotel is situated in a literal 360-degree treasure trove of beauty. Nothing shows that better than the drone footage you’ll get from your wedding videographer.
As you can see, the angle I’m showing below demonstrates the beautiful natural feel of a traditional Dartmoor wedding, but when you face into the opposite direction it’s an equally beautiful sweeping landscape of more traditional fields and farmland.
Whatever direction you orient yourself on the day, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a bad angle at this stunning Devon wedding venue.
Moment 2/5: When the outdoor ceremony was perfect
As a Devon-based wedding videographer, I’ve filmed weddings at Moorland Hotel a few times now. I’ve never filmed a wedding there that didn’t sit in my “favourite weddings of the year” list.
That said, due to general misfortune I’ve also never filmed a Moorland Hotel wedding that didn’t have indecisive weather on the wedding day, an obvious challenge for any outdoor ceremony.
On most occasions it worked out and when it does it’s beautiful.
When it doesn’t work out, the Moorland Hotel staff have an unprecedented skill for swapping everything from outdoor ceremony room to the indoor ceremony room (shown in moment 3) in a matter of minutes.
Watching them do it is like that TV Show 60 Minute Makeover, except for weddings, and it’s 60 seconds. It’s unbelievable.
By the way, it was at the Moorland Hotel where I learnt what the real name for that little structure at the front of the ceremony is called… but as I’m writing this, I realised I’ve forgotten all over again. It’s a tough thing to get an answer on google for too… so I’ll just hope you know.
Moment 3/5: When the Grooms speech was hilarious
Admittedly the Groom probably could’ve performed this speech at any venue and it would’ve still been great, but the groom’s speech was one of the best parts of the day.
You could tell pretty quickly from meeting Jordan that he had a great sense of humour. Jordan would be the type of guy on a night out that I would laugh at his jokes regularly enough to begin to get self-conscious that I was coming across weird.
There are multiple times in his wedding film that show moments he had everyone burst into laughter, and there were a couple of moments elsewhere in his wedding speech as well… not an easy accomplishment to pull off!
“Jade was in her 2nd year of university in 2016… which was difficult, due to the distance. But we continued to see each other every other weekend, and I really enjoyed travelling up to Bristol. Not just to see Jade, but the Krispy Kreme factory had an amazing range of flavours.”
Moment 4/5: When we took photos with Hugo the Dog
Moorland Garden is extremely dog friendly, even having dog-specific guest rooms on the ground floor that have sliding doors out to the gardens.
It’s not uncommon to see other dogs in the bar or hotel lobby, and whenever I film a wedding video here I’ve developed a bit of a habit to arrive half an hour or so early so I can sit downstairs and dog spot for a while with a coffee.
So of course, given Moorland Garden being dog friendly, and being in the middle of Dartmoor, Jade & Jordan brought their own wee dog, Hugo, to celebrate the day with them.
And if you’re wondering how much of a nightmare it was to get these nice shots of Hugo… the answer is not at all. He was a good photogenic boy.
Moment 5/5: When we were spoiled for choice
One of Moorland Hotel’s biggest secret advantages is that it isn’t just a wedding venue on dartmoor.
Not all of your wedding photos and wedding video shots have to be Dartmoor themed.
For some people, wedding photos are a bit of a chore - if you’re not comfortable on camera or just don’t really care about keeping a hold of the memories and just want to enjoy the day then this final point might not interest you - though there is a big advantage to Moorland Hotel for you folks as well!
Moorland Hotel’s big advantage is the sheer number of unique beautiful wedding photography locations.
Some venues put a tonne of effort into making a beautiful wedding ceremony room only have one little corner for photos.
Because Moorland Hotel is so perfectly situated next to Haytor you can get stunning Dartmoor wedding shots, but also some quirky photos with the red phone booth or photos in the beautifully kept garden.
And the best part? (Those couples who are worried about spending loads of time on photos - this is for you!) it’s all literally on site. We didn’t walk more than 2 minutes to get to any of these locations.
